Scrappy Saturday-- Well You Can't Say I'm Not Trying!!

This is what I've come up with so far for the Soscrappy Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I made this crazy patch to use  for the top of a hotpad.  I think it is pretty.  It certainly isn't a whole quilt like some people are posting -- but it is something.  I hope to quilt and bind it by next week.

The lower left corner looks a little messed up -- it is just the picture.  Honest it is square.
I also was piecing this table runner.  Someone said if you can sew a straight line you can make this block in a block design.  Ok --maybe I can't sew a straight line then.  I will plod on and practice and hope to make progress.  In the meantime--be kind.  I am going to try to hand quilt this runner.  I want to try a variety of things to see what I enjoy.  I do like sewing by hand.  Binding projects looks scary to me.

COME ON--MAKE MY DAY--LEAVE A COMMENT!!

  1. Way to go! The important thing is to be willing to try new things and to enjoy creating something new. Binding is one of my favorite parts of quilting! If you like hand work, you'll like binding!

  2. What a cute hot pad. I would hate to hurt it by touching hot things though! The table runner looks great. I enjoy binding, but hand quilting is always a long process. I have had great luck with 100% cotton batting on table runners, it lies nice and flat.

  3. Love your pieces. I'm not going to be making anything big either. I think this challenge is going to be a great way to try out all those new things we've always wanted to try and just never got round to :)

  4. Keep going you are doing a great job. One thing uI have learned when sing any sort of batting is that it is a lot wasier to quilt by hand or machine if you use a cotton batting. It is quite flat and there is alot less movement when you quilt.

  5. :) I like! The only reason I'm getting a quilt is because the blocks are easy (like super easy) and I have the scraps for it. I usually make smaller stuff.

  6. The runner and the hot pad will be a nice kitchen set! I have about 5 or 6 hot pads in my drawer that I made. I usually do a hot pad each time I warm up for machine quilting. I'm going to have to start giving them away. I didn't bind the edges, I just used left over polar fleece and trimmed the edges with a pinking shears close to the quilting. They have been fine for 3 years.

  8. The hot pad is a great idea for using up those small scraps! As for the sewing a straight line? Let me tell you, if an angle comes into it anywhere, all bets are off. Your piece looks good, and you can quilt it just fine, I'm sure! Check out lazy gal's blog for ideas about breaking away from the traditional idea of a bazillion stitches to the inch and frames and all the rest of that stuff. Works just fine.
